4nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 goes officialQualcomm has presented the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 (SM4450) Mobile Platform – the first 4 nm chip in the Snapdragon 4 series. It also happens to be the first to employ the 3GPP Release 16 version of 5G. The CPU comprises two 2.2GHz performance cores and six 2.0GHz efficiency cores. Compared to the first generation of the chipset, the second one boosts performance by 10%. The Adreno GPU has not been detailed, yet, suffice the fact that it supports FHD+ displays with a refresh rate of up to 120Hz. The new mobile platform supports LPDDR5X RAM clocked at 3200 MHz and UFS 3.1 2-lane storage.

The dual ISP of the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 supports FHD at 60 fps video recording, EIS, and improved noise reduction for videos thanks to a new feature called Multi-Camera Temporal Filtering. With this chip, manufacturers can use a single 108MP camera, up to a 32MP single unit with Zero Shutter Lag, or two 16MP units. Quick Charge 4+ for battery charging and USB Type-C 3.2 Gen 1 connectivity is supported as well. The mobile platform uses a X61 modem with 4×4 MIMO for 900 Mbps upload and 2.5Gbps download speeds. Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.1 with aptX for audio are also supported. Xiaomi, Redmi, and Vivo will be the first brands to launch smartphones with the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 mobile platform in the second half of this year.
