Apple has unveiled the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus with an updated design. Available in five beautiful colors, the devices use a rear glass shell that has been colored throughout its entire depth. The surface has been edged to create a beautiful matte finish. Both models are IP68 rated for being resistant to water and dust.
The front of the devices is adorned with a 6.1-inch display on the iPhone 15 and a 6.7-inch on the iPhone 15 Plus, each based on OLED technology. This year the brightness has been improved to 1600 nits of peak HDR brightness and 2000 nits of peak outdoor brightness. In addition, the display is protected by a ceramic shield that’s tougher than any other screen glass. Apple has also improved the Dynamic Island by expanding its functionality.
iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus also employ a new camera system. Now each of the devices has a 48MP main shooter with a 26 mm focal length equivalent, an f/1.6 aperture, and Sensor-shift OIS. It is adjoined by a 12MP ultra-wide unit with an f/1.6 aperture, 100% Pixel Focus, Sensor-shift OIS. Processing power is based on the A16 Bionic introduced on last year’s iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone Pro Max. The smartphones support NFC, ultra wideband connectivity thanks to the dedicated chip, emergency SOS via satellite, Roadside Assistance via satellite, etc. The satellite services are offered for free for three years.
iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus are now fitted with USB Type-C ports. They also support MagSafe connectivity for various chargers and accessories. Apple is removing the leather cases replacing them with fine-woven ones to decrease its environmental impact.
The 128GB iPhone 15 starts from USD 799 and the 128GB iPhone 15 Plus starts from USD 899. Pre-orders begin Friday, September 15, with availability beginning Friday, September 22.
