The latest Apple iPhones are here! Apple unveiled its new iPhone models at its “Wonderlust” event on Tuesday evening, showcasing the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus, along with a host of other devices, including the new Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2. Among the big new features, Dynamic Island, which debuted last year on the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max, is now present on the iPhone 15 range.
Big news includes the expansion to the iPhone 15 lineup of Dynamic Island, the animated feature at the top of the screen that gives contextual information and which debuted last year on the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max. The addition of USB-C, which replaces the Lightning port for wired charging and connectivity, has also been widely announced.
As with the 2022 iPhone 14 range, there is no “mini” iPhone 15. Apple is once again offering a 6.1-inch iPhone 15 and a 6.7-inch iPhone 15 Plus. The screens are also brighter, up to 2000 nits of brightness.
The new phones come in five colors: pink, yellow, green, blue and black. The iPhone 15’s main camera now has a resolution of 48 megapixels and not only allows for higher quality photos and videos, but also 2x telephoto zoom (to 12 megapixels).
The chip under the hood is based on last year’s A16 Bionic, which powered the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max. Last year’s iPhone 14 and 14 Plus were equipped with the A15 Bionic chip. The iPhone 15’s battery is larger, but Apple hasn’t revealed the precise size of the battery.
The new devices retain a range of features from the iPhone, including 5G connectivity and support for satellite connectivity in case of emergency. New this year is the ability to call roadside assistance via satellite. Several countries will benefit from Dynamic Island.
In addition to USB-C, the new iPhones will be able to work with MagSafe as well as new accessories that support the Qi2 wireless charging standard, announced earlier this year.
