Counterpoint's Q1 2022 Smartphone Market report is published, Samsung leads the wayCounterpoint has published its Q1 2022 Smartphone Market report. A key finding of the report is that Samsung has surpassed Apple and has been the number 1 vendor for the first quarter of this year with its smartphone shipments increasing by 8% QoQ to 74.4 million units. Samsung’s market share is 23% with Apple remaining second with 18%. Its shipments have declined 1% YoY to reach 59 million units. Components shortages continue to impede other vendors such as Xiaomi, Oppo, and Vivo causing QoQ and YoY declines for all three brands. Honor experienced a 148% YoY growth in shipments to 16 million units increasing to a 5% market share.

The market in Asia is equally distributed between the five leading brands which occupied 14-15% market share. In North America, Apple is traditionally first, followed by Samsung. Motorola is third, TCL fourth, and Google’s Pixel smartphones are fifth. In Europe, Samsung is first followed by Apple, Xiaomi, Oppo, and Realme. In Latin America, Samsung is the bespoke leader followed by Motorola, Xiaomi, Apple, and ZTE. Finally, in the Middle East and Africa, again Samsung leads the way followed by Tecno, Infinix, Itel, and Xiaomi.

Overall, in Q1 2022 the smartphone market has declined by 8% YoY and 12% QoQ to 326 million units in Q1 2022.Source
