Honor Magic5 Pro debuts at MWC 2023 in Barcelona

Honor introduced the Magic5 series at the MWC 2023 in Barcelona. The series features an updated design retaining the elegance typical for the Honor Magic series.

Honor Magic5 Pro – specifications and features

On the front, the Floating Screen of the Honor Magic5 Pro has a quad-curved design and on the back, the camera island’s design has been changed from the iconic Eye of Muse to the new Star Wheel. Looking from the side, the device has a symmetrical dual-curved frame achieving a super streamlined curvature at the corners. The model is IP68 rated for water and dust resistance. The available colors include Glacier Blue, Meadow Green, Coral Purple, Black, and Orange. Some have a frosty glass finish, others – a glossy one, and the orange and purple variants – a faux leather finish.

The AMOLED display of the Honor Magic5 Pro delivers 1300 nits of global high brightness and 1800 nits of peak HDR brightness. With a Delta E ~ 0.27, it delivers excellent color accuracy. Moreover, the display is calibrated to deliver it in indoor and outdoor light conditions. The built-in display chipset also provides a pro-grade video experience with motion blur cancellation and video quality enhancement that reaches an HDR10+ effect. The screen is also the industry’s frost LTPO display with 2160 Hz PWM dimming. This is also accompanied by a number of certifications for eye comfort and safety technology.

As for the camera department, Honor has upgraded not only the sensors and lenses on the Honor Magic5 Pro but also the computational photography platform increasing the quality and speed. An oval cutout in the top left corner of the display houses a 3D depth camera with 3D face recognition. It is adjoined by the main selfie snapper – a 12MP ultra-wide unit with a 100-degree field of view and a 1.22-micron pixel size. On the back, there’s a Falcon Camera System comprising three shooters. The left one is the main 50MP camera with a 1/1.12″ sensor supporting 4-in-1 pixel binning to achieve a 2.8 micron pixel size, an f/1.6 aperture, a 23mm focal length equivalent, and OIS. The top unit is a 50MP periscope telephoto camera with a 90 mm focal length equivalent and an f/3.0 aperture. This camera supports OIS, 3.5x optical zoom, 100x digital zoom, and can shoot telephoto macro photos from 30 cm. Finally, there’s the 50MP ultra-wide camera with a 13mm focal length equivalent, an f/2.0 aperture, a 122-degree FoV, and a 2.5 cm Super Macro support.

A Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Mobile Platform is responsible for the performance delivering an immense improvement in AI performance and efficiency, CPU and GPU performance, and power efficiency. It is aided by features such as OS Turbo X, GPU Turbo X, and Link Turbo X. Moreover, there’s a discrete security chipset with dual TEE Security OS. It supports privacy call mode with AI switching based on the environment. Power is supplied by a 5100 mAh battery with 66W wired and 50W wireless charging support. The Honor Magic5 Pro runs on MagicOS 7.1 based on Android 13. It arrives with MagicRing smart cross-device collaboration support enabling auto connection with tablets, smartphones, and laptops and enabling multi-device collaboration.

After presenting the Honor Magic5 Pro, Honor Magic5, and the global Honor Magic Vs, the brand unveiled the pricing of the smartphones. The vanilla Magic5 pricing starts at EUR 899 for the 8GB+256GB version. The Pro version pricing starts at EUR 1199 for the 12GB+512GB variant. The Magic Vs costs EUR 1599 for the 12GB+512GB version.
