Nokia G42 has been announced today as HMD Global’s first user-repairable 5G smartphone. For this purpose, HMD has partnered with iFixit to provide repair guides and information about parts that can be replaced – batteries, displays, charging ports, etc. The two-piece unibody ensures ease of repair and the back cover is made of 65% recycled plastic. The device is tested to survive more knocks with over 2x drop testing and new compression testing. Nokia G42 is equipped with a 6.56-inch IPS display with an HD+ resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate. It is covers with a Corning Gorilla Glass 3 nad has a V-notch for the 8MP selfie camera. The rear shell houses a triple camera module with the three lenses vertically aligned in the top-left corner. The setup includes a 50MP main shooter with an f/1.8 aperture, a 2MP depth sensor, and a 2MP macro lens. Power is supplied by a 5000 mAh battery with 20W fast charging. Processing power depends on a Snapdragon 480+ chipset with 4GB/6GB of RAM and 128GB of expandable storage. The device is IP52 rated for being resistant to water splashes, a headphone jack, and a side-mounted fingerprint sensor. It runs on Android 13 with two years of OS updates and three years of monthly security ones. Nokia G42 is available in gray and purple and costs €249.
