A funny and enchanting film: Paddington

Paddington tells the story of a young Peruvian bear, fresh from London, in search of a home and a better life. He quickly realizes that the city of his dreams is not as welcoming as he thought. By chance, he meets the Brown family and gradually becomes a full member.

The opinion of CNET France

A priori, this adaptation of the adventures of Paddington Bear, a series of novels by Englishman Michael Bond published between 1958 and 2012, is intended only for a young audience… However, this film mixing real shots and 3D animation is a small nugget of the genre, and a charming adventure that will delight even the most cynical among us.

Paddington mixes the humor of the usual “fish out of water” scheme, with this adorable Peruvian bear who finds himself having to get used to life in London, with a well-conducted investigative narrative and entertaining twists. We laugh of course at the many scenes where the little bear clumsily discovers modern life in London, but we are above all touched by his candor.

Our little hero thus brandishes his innocence in the face of the absurdity and stupidity of everyday life. And as in all pretty tales, his kindness and strength of character are enough to overcome the cynicism of the modern world. It is thus difficult not to melt, and not to be overwhelmed by so many good feelings. Especially since all this is not free, and in the service of a solid and entertaining story.

The icing on the cake, the film counts on a cast of luxury with a British tendency: Ben Wishaw, Hugh Bonneville, Sally Hawkins, Jim Broadbent, Peter Capaldi or even Nicole Kidman. Because of his optimism and his abundance of positive energies, Paddington is a film that should be reimbursed by Social Security, and exactly what is needed in this freezing month of January.

A unique and delirious animated film: The Mitchells against the Machines

Katie Mitchell and her family, accompanied by their beloved dog, go on a road trip in nature before the young girl begins her school year at the school of her dreams. The project quickly takes another turn when all the electronic devices around the world rebel and decide to take control. With the help of two dysfunctional robots, the Mitchell family joins forces to save the planet.

The opinion of CNET France

Latest creation from Sony Pictures Animation, already at work on Cloudy with a chance of meatballs and the Oscar winner Spider-Man : New Generation, The Mitchells vs. the Machines is a new crazy and original proposal at the height of the habits of the studio.

The strength of this adventure lies above all in its atypical heroes: a family like the others, and inevitably with its share of problems, and a special pet dog. Funny and touching main protagonists with whom we necessarily identify… and who will try to save the world.

The Mitchells vs. the Machines picks up on the mix of highly expressive 3D animation and dynamic 2D animation that worked so well in Spider-Man : New Generation, and which adds a welcome refreshing effect. This original aesthetic is pushed to the extreme here, with shots full of elements and details of all kinds, generous sequences in action, and a particularly neat staging.

Far from the family film like the others, The Mitchells vs. the Machines is a joyous mess full of gags, colors and references that will certainly make you have a great time. A joyful and delirious gem of animation that we warmly recommend.
