After announcing the Polychromatic Photoisomer Technology in India in September last year, today, Tecno introduced the Chameleon Coloring Technology as part of the MWC 2023 in Barcelona. The Polychromatic Photoisomer Technology debuted on the Tecno Camon 19 Pro Mondrian. Following the Neoplasticism style of reducing a canvas to vertical and horizontal lines with black, white, and primary colors, Tecno has designed the rear shell in white with thick black lines. The polychromatic photoisomer allows this monochrome cover to display different colors when reflecting light at different angles.
The Tecno Chameleon Coloring Technology is demonstrated on a prototype device, not a real smartphone. Just like in the Polychromatic Photoisomer Technology, the color change is achieved by reflecting light from different directions. However, Chameleon Coloring Technology uses a special grid of sub-micron prism material. When an electric impulse is applied to it, the miniature particles change direction. This direction can be controlled precisely to refract light in desired wavelengths, hence achieving the desired color. You can manually choose from 1600 different colors or let the device automatically change the color depending on whether you have notifications, the music you listen to, or the battery charge status. A color can be changed in 0.03 seconds.
