TikTok is quickly becoming one of the most used social media platforms worldwide and, as such, is fertile ground for growing an audience.  However, one key to going viral is knowing the best time to post. Since trends form and change almost daily, timing has everything to do with knowing your audience and their geolocation. Here’s how to know when to post on TikTok.

To know when to post on TikTok, you’ll need a business account to view the analytics of your audience. You can then post your videos when they are awake and active on the app.


How to switch TikTok to a Business account

Users with professional accounts have access to more features, such as performance metrics and audience insights. That data can help tailor your posting strategies to what content your audience likes best. For our purposes, it can also help determine when to post on TikTok by knowing where your audience lives.

Setting up a business account is free, so you might as well take advantage of the extra features to help grow your online presence. You can switch to a business account by navigating to your Profile–> Settings and privacy–> Manage account and selecting Switch to a Business account.

You’ll be asked to choose the category that best describes your account. The category won’t be displayed publicly but will help TikTok suggest strategies to reach your intended audience.

How to view analytics in TikTok

Once you’ve created a business account, you can access the Business suite from the settings menu on your Profile.

Tap Analytics to view various stats, such as when you posted videos and others viewed them.

Under Overview, you can see how many followers, videos, and profile views your account has gained. Under Content, you can view detailed data on specific TikTok posts, such as total playtime and how big the reached audience was. Note that you can only see analytics for videos you posted after turning on the feature.


Under the Followers tab, you’ll find details on your audience, such as the Top Territories.

You can use this data to determine when your biggest audience is awake. This can be tricky, as certain territories cover larger timezones than others. Thankfully, another benefit of a TikTok business account is scheduling your posts, allowing you to plan and post content over the most active periods.

When is the best time to post on TikTok: what do the experts say?

Besides scheduling video posts over your follower’s most active time zones, some research has found a few critical times to post that you won’t want to miss. After analyzing over 100,000 TikTok posts and engagement rates, Influencer Marketing Hub narrowed down some of the best times to post. Here is a graph of their results.

Note that all the times are in EST and ignore sectors. However, it can’t hurt to try posting during these time slots and then stick with what works best according to your analytics.

Conversely, there are some times you may want to avoid posting on TikTok. According to Influencer Marketing Hub’s data, the worst times to post on TikTok are

  • 5 pm, 6 pm, and 9 pm on any day of the week
  • 10 am — 3 pm on Sunday through Wednesday
  • 12 am — 4 am on Friday through Monday
  • Any time after 9 am on Tuesday
